Guest Ansel_Adams Posted April 17, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 17, 2014 Have a look at some of the voigtlander lenses. May be possible second hand.
topoxforddoc Posted April 17, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 17, 2014 Have a look at some of the voigtlander lenses. May be possible second hand. Dave, An alternative might be just to buy one lens. You might get a reasonable older 50 summicron for your £600 budget. An alternative might be the Minolta 40/2 and 90/4 Rokkor M, made for the CLE. Cracking lenses, very compact and every bit as good as some of the older Leica M and CL lenses. Charlie
wda Posted April 17, 2014 Share #4 Posted April 17, 2014 I would definitely go for one lens, probably a 50mm, and get the best you can afford. And welcome to the forum, Dave.
DMJ Posted April 17, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 17, 2014 For around £600 you could get a new Zeiss ZM Planar f2. Dale Photographic in Leeds have both black & silver in stock for £599. I bought my M240 & various Leica lenses from them & they have been great. Martin
DMJ Posted April 17, 2014 Share #6 Posted April 17, 2014 P.S. It is easy to 6-bit code modern ZM lenses.
DirkB17 Posted April 18, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would recommand a used Voigtländer Nokton 1.5 with screw mount plus codable adaptor from eBay. Works fine and should be within your price range, at least more or less.
Ecar Posted April 18, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 18, 2014 I'd also go for a single lens and allocate the whole budget towards a 50mm. The 50 focal length is a great all-rounder and will take portraits as well. I'd get the Planar 50/2.
Malvolio Posted April 18, 2014 Share #9 Posted April 18, 2014 The Planar 50/2 is excellent. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
IWC Doppel Posted April 18, 2014 Share #10 Posted April 18, 2014 If I were you I'd 1. Go against the trend and P/X your wife for a less economical model 2. Convince your wife that it's an investment 3. Sell some of your other unused equipment (I bet you have a few hundred pounds of something laying around ?) and add a little to the 'budget' When the funding is sorted I'd definitely stick with one 50 and if you can live with f2.8 I'd have the Leica 50 Elmar-M, if not then save a little more for an early Summicron 50 I personally would stick with Leica as they are easily sold on when you are in a position to perhaps want a different lens
algrove Posted April 18, 2014 Share #11 Posted April 18, 2014 +1 And I also might add that Leica lenses work best for me on Leica cameras. I have owned many non Leica Zeiss lenses, but still prefer Leica glass the most.
Guest Ansel_Adams Posted April 18, 2014 Share #12 Posted April 18, 2014 I would also suggest the Voigtlander Nokton 40/1.4 - a superb lens.
Guest Ansel_Adams Posted April 18, 2014 Share #13 Posted April 18, 2014 Good review of the Nokton 40mm here: The Voigtländer Nokton 40mm f/1.4. | Photographs by Peter
Dave M Posted April 18, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted April 18, 2014 Hi thanks for all the advice very much appreciated if I purchased the Summicron-R mount would I have to purchase a adapter for the M9 also is it just the R mount that would need a adapter sorry I am inexperienced with Leica equipment thanks for your help Dave.
Ecar Posted April 18, 2014 Share #15 Posted April 18, 2014 You wouldn't be able to properly focus an R lens on the M9. You'd need the M240, which has LiveView to use an R lens.
ola.fiske Posted April 18, 2014 Share #16 Posted April 18, 2014 I would suggest the 50mm Summilux type 1. Perfect for portraits, and a good alroundlens.
Jeff S Posted April 18, 2014 Share #17 Posted April 18, 2014 I would suggest the 50mm Summilux type 1. Perfect for portraits, and a good alroundlens. For £300? Jeff

Ecar Posted April 18, 2014 Share #19 Posted April 18, 2014 I would suggest the 50mm Summilux type 1. Perfect for portraits, and a good alroundlens. Well, allow me to disagree. The v1 Summilux (I used to have one) definitely has some character, but I wouldn't say it's an all-rounder. If anything, it's rather flare-prone. I would not recommend it for a single, first-lens setup. Just MHO.
CrisRose Posted April 19, 2014 Share #20 Posted April 19, 2014 The Voigtlander 90/3.5 APO Lanthar is a lovely, sharp portrait lens and very cheap.
