Lens advise.

Have a look at some of the voigtlander lenses. May be possible second hand.

Dave,

An alternative might be just to buy one lens. You might get a reasonable older 50 summicron for your £600 budget. An alternative might be the Minolta 40/2 and 90/4 Rokkor M, made for the CLE. Cracking lenses, very compact and every bit as good as some of the older Leica M and CL lenses.

For around £600 you could get a new Zeiss ZM Planar f2. Dale Photographic in Leeds have both black & silver in stock for £599. I bought my M240 & various Leica lenses from them & they have been great.

If I were you I'd

1. Go against the trend and P/X your wife for a less economical model

2. Convince your wife that it's an investment

3. Sell some of your other unused equipment (I bet you have a few hundred pounds of something laying around ?) and add a little to the 'budget'

When the funding is sorted I'd definitely stick with one 50 and if you can live with f2.8 I'd have the Leica 50 Elmar-M, if not then save a little more for an early Summicron 50

I personally would stick with Leica as they are easily sold on when you are in a position to perhaps want a different lens

I would suggest the 50mm Summilux type 1. Perfect for portraits, and a good alroundlens.

Well, allow me to disagree. The v1 Summilux (I used to have one) definitely has some character, but I wouldn't say it's an all-rounder. If anything, it's rather flare-prone. I would not recommend it for a single, first-lens setup. Just MHO.
