D-Lux (109) Autofocus AF/AF macro

As we all know by now the camera has two possibilities for autofocus: AF and AF Macro.

Now if you position the switch in AF it focus from 30 cm to infinity and if you use AF Macro

It focus from 3 cm to infinity.

Why two positions?

Why not use AF Macro all the time?

What have i missed?

Shoot a remote subject matter behind a close, dirty window and you will see the difference. In normal AF position, your camera won't focus on the dirts. Hard to check if your windows are clean though ;). I don't know if there are other differences on your DL109 as i shoot mostly MF with my LX100.

I do not own an Type 109, but I think it works as every other camera:

AF-Macro is slower but more accurate than the normal setting.

The normal AF is much faster than the Macro-AF.

Owners of the Type 109, please correct me if I am wrong :)

I just tried but I could see no difference in speed.

However, I looked on your Flickr site and I liked it very much.

You are a very keen photographer!

Erik, I had 3 other DLux cameras before 109 and I always left that option to AF/Macro. I found it more convenient that way because I was often going close to my subject and I didn't have waist time to change! It worked fine for any shot, close or far!

Thank you Louis, Coming from M6,M7, and M9 I have very little experience with AF but as mentioned I could see no difference between AF and AF Macro except the extra 27 cm in macro position,

However, as they made three different positions on the switch I thought/think there should be a reason
