Changing the DL109's file numbers

I noticed that the file numbers on the photos from my DL109 were all like _10000001, _10000002 etc but I tend to use a different MSD (most significant digit) for each of my cameras so that I don't, for example, accidentally overwrite a file called L10000097 taken with my M240 with a file called L10000097 taken with my DL109. Here's how to change the file name to what you want because the instruction in the manual on the CD isn't entirely clear.

1. Go to the Setup menu (the 4th one down with the crossed spanner and screwdriver) and format the SD card in the camera.

2. Select No.Reset (3 above Format) and Reset the file number.

3. The next screen will ask if you want to Reset the Folder Number, select yes and do it.

4. Take one image.

5. Turn the camera off, remove the SD card and place it in card reader attached to a computer.

6. Access the image in your Finder or Explorer (Mac or PC); rename the image number to whatever file number/image number you want, for example, Lyyyxxxx, with "y" being your preferred folder number (See Note Below) and "x" being the frame number you want to start with. (You are making these changes to the file name on the card in the card reader.)

NOTE:

If you want to change the first or second digit of the L100 (Lyyy above) in the file name, like to L200 or 120 or 220, then you have to change the folder name also.

The directory/folder structure on the card when in a card reader is [Drive Letter]:\DCIM\100LEICA\. You need to change the 100LEICA to whatever you want the file number to start with. So if you want it to be L200xxxx then you need to rename that folder to 200LEICA but if you want it to be L120 then you need to change that folder name to 120LEICA. It would look like this [Drive Letter]:\DCIM\120LEICA or 200LEICA.

7. Properly remove the SD card from the card reader and return it to the camera.

8. Turn the camera on and press "Play" and press "Disp" until it shows the file number.

9. Take another image to confirm and check the file numbers.

10. Format the SD card again and you are finished.

Pete.
