Hot Shoe Leica D-LUX (Typ 109)

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if the new D Lux has the connection pins on the hot shoe like other Leica (and Nikon) cameras?

Or is the proprietary Panasonic version maintained in the D lux version of the LX100?

Would the small flash which is included with the D Lux work on other Leica cameras, too?

I'm asking because I'd like to be able to use my SF24d on the new D Lux and maybe the small D Lux flash as a small eye-light on my S2.

Thanks in advance.

Du kannst es mit Deiner neuen D-Lux* testen. (Auslieferung November 2014)

Hi, here are the top views of the LX100 and the S2. The S2 has three pins, the LX100 has four and placed differently so my guess is that they are not reciprocally compatible but you'd better ask directly Leica.

Thanks for taking the trouble to post these, Bruno.

Yes, the Panny pins are positioned differenly, and of course the electronic flash protocol is different too. No luck, I guess it would be too much to ask for Leica to change the hot shoe during the fabrication of the D Lux. The more I think about it, the more obvious it becomes that such a procedure would be to costly.

Thanks again, everyone!

You're welcome, Peter. Helping each other is one of the reasons for any decent forum to exist.

And yes, I agree with you and to a further extent I'd dare to say that if Leica changed a bit the rebadged Pannies to make them coherent with the rest of their line it would be a benefit for us all. You could ubiquitously use your flash and I and some others would be more than happy to shoot DNG instead of RW2.

But as you cleverly remarked, doing so wouldn't be economically convenient for Leica as they should essentially make a different camera out of an already existing one which grants profits for almost zero effort.

Cheers,

bruno

Hi everybody.. I have METZ 24AF-1 flash. I was using it on LUMIX LX7 without any problem. But this flash even introducing m4/3 oly+pana+leica model but not working properly on DLUX TYPE 109.

I have checked LX7 Hotshoe is 3 pins but TYPE 109 is 4 pins like LX100

I think so either TYPE109 or LX100 is totally different system then previous models and need to wait before to buy an external flash

It probably has to do with the fact that the supplied flash is powered by the camera and not by internal batteries.
