timecott01 Posted July 5, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has any other V-lux3 ownder observed this effect: Correctly fitted (really) leica lenshood appears as edge shadows on image.....but only when photographing in RAW format??? Widest angle setting on zoom. auto focus. There also appears to be some barrell distortion here too (see example photo - attached) I have never observed this before, and this is the first time i have used RAW image setting. normally i use lightly compressed jpeg and have never seen shadows or any sign of barrell distortion. Am i setting something wrong? Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Advertisement Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Hi timecott01, Take a look here V-lux3 - Lenshood shadow visible. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
timecott01 Posted July 8, 2014 Author Share #2 Posted July 8, 2014 I now know what is going on here. I was using, for the first time, the RAW setting on the VLUX3. So saying, I needed to use some software to process the raw images. I first used Corel Aftershot Pro 2. This software displayed raw images - but WITH the visible lenshood shadow in the corners. BUT If I used some other software (e.g. Adobe Lightroom) on the same raw files, the images DO NOT show the lenshood shadow. SO I think the Corel Aftershot Pro images are WRONG in some way, with their geometry? They did also look as though some barrell distortion was visible. Perhaps the total CCD image is actually greater than the final image, and is cropped. SO I recommend NOT to use Corel Aftershot Pro - use Lightroom instead! Solved. mrware Posted July 10, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 10, 2014 I think Leica must cook the raws a little and Lightroom pics up those parameters (probably lens corrections) and Aftershot does not, hence the difference.
