Guy's

I want to buy a Leica compact to take with me on overseas trips along with my M (240) something that will easily fit in a jacket pocket……………….any recommendations?

Something preferbly with a viewfinder as i am not to keen on a "Point and Shoot"

D-Lux 6 unless you want specialist long focal lengths. In which case, provided you can accept lower quality, the V-Lux 4. But for normal photography my choice would be the former.
David do you know if the Olupus EVF works with this camera

Neil, I am not sure but a member will know. Actually I use its predecessor for such work (D-Lux 5) and use the Lumix EVF. I think that a different one is needed for the -6. It is quite a potent combination and can be produced in situations where a bigger camera is not available or inappropriate.

The D-LUX 6 works perfectly with Panasonic's DMW-LVF2. I have been enjoying this combination for a while now. Also much, much cheaper than the Leica EVF (which is exactly the same).

Bill I like the size of the D-lux 6 but I really dont like to shoot without a viewfinder so seeing as I already have the Olympus v2 EVF for my M 240 I was hoping that would also work with the DLux-6

Neil,

I can understand your wanting a viewfinder. I use the DMW-LVF2 for that reason. Not sure if your current viewfinder would work.

As others suggest a Panasonic (D-Lux6), have a look at the Sony RXII with EVF. IQ wise it clearly sets the gold standard among the pocketable versatile solutions. If versatility is not the main concern, the new Ricoh GR with OVF is a superb compact solution with excellent lens and aps-c sensor.

Hi Neil, I have the DLux5 at the moment as my back up and it is a great camera.

I too have the view finder but after a while I don't use it at all. Unfortunately this viewfinder not compatible with the DLux6.

BTW I am beginning to learn not to use the EVF on my M - too much a hassle, some lag time, resolution not as good and the live view is good enough. For out doors I just use the rangefinder viewfinder if the light is too bright.
