Digilux 3 Firmware Update

I have just attempted to download the Digilux 3 firmware update 2.0 for Windows. I am unable to open the DL3_200.din file. It seems that I require an appropriate program to do so. Can anybody assist with the procedure please?

So you mean the DL3_200.bin file? The answer is that you don't open it. The procedure is simply to copy this file as is to the topmost folder of your SD card, next to but not inside the DCIM and MISC folders. Once you've done that, insert the card in the camera (assuming you're using a card reader) and simply switch it on. I suggest you also consult the instructions on the Leica Digilux 3 Downloads page for the exact sequence of steps to follow.

I am usually good with instructions, being the first to accuse the opposite sex of never reading them (especially the one in my life!). Before the DG3 arrived, I printed off the full instruction book to give myself a few evenings of bedtime reading. Somehow I overlooked the relevant download for the update information. Maybe I was over-excited with the arrival of the camera! I have submitted my next simpleton question as a seperate post.

the main point is as you said NOT INSIDE THE DCIM... I have now finally done it. I have repeatedly copied into the DCIM. Thanks for the advise.

I thank both of you for the precise indications.However, I followed both your suggestion of copying the DL3_200.bin file in the SD card out of the "MISC" and "DCIM" folders, and Leica website instructions on how to start the firmware update, but when I turn on my Digilux 3 and press the "play" button, it just shows pictures, while it does not read the ".bin" file, and does not start the update procedure. I tried all possibilities I could imagine, such as deleting all pictures from the card; formatting it with the D3; copying the ".bin" file from the PC to the card; or copying the file from the PC to the D3 connected with the USB cord; using SD or SDHC cards: always the same frustrating result! Is there any alternative way to start the update procedure once the card is in the D3? I have copied the file as it is in the card; or do I have to create a folder? I have even checked the dimension of the file and it corresponds to Leica indications Can anybody help me, please?

Format the SD card in the camera, insert the card into a card reader, copy the file to the top of the root directory next to the DCIM and MISC folder.

Then insert the card into the camera, switch on and carry on as per the instructions.

Thanks so much Jaap and Larryking. However, unfortunately, my problem is that I did exactly what Jaap wrote, and then I followed the Leica instructions for installing the software (insert the SD card, then turn on the camera and push the "play button") but the installation process doesn't start! Thanks everybody (or perhaps a Leica moderator) for further help!

One more question for Jaap (maybe I did something wrong here): the DCIM and MISC are folders, not files; I copied the DL3_200.bin file in the SD card out of the "MISC" and "DCIM" folders, and the three items (two folders and one file) appear one after the other, as one opens the SD card. Is this correct?

Try removing ALL the contents from the SD card, also the MISC and DCIM folders... then copy the firmware update to the SD card, and repeat the process on the camera (insert sd card, turn on, press play...)

The camera will only apply the update if it contains a more recent version than that which is installed in the camera. How to find out which version is installed is also described in those instructions.

Eventually, I succeeded in installing the software update in my Leica Digilux 3, after having tried all tricks I could imagine, except the one you suggested.

To note, Leica instructions suggest to format the SD card within the D3, before copying the ".bin" file in it; and when you format the SD card within the D3, it automatically creates the two empty folders "DCIM" and "MISC"; so I went on in my tries by simply adding the ".bin" file to those folders. But it didn't work. Instead, it perfectly worked when I erased all files from the SD card and simply copied the ".bin" file alone in it, as suggested by Jip, whom I thank again!

Anybody know where to get viewfinder correction lenses for Digilux 3? I need a minus to supplement the viewfinder adjuster.

I had thought of gluing a negative lens to a spare rubber eyepiece but an original correction lens would be better. Presumably the Panasonic or Olympus variants use the same eyepiece, not that I found one.
