Hello,

ok, here there are. At your own risk. For me it works fine. :-)

1) Make sure that you have insert a full battery in your D2! Put a sd-card into the slot and make some pictures. Turn the power "Off".

2) Set the mode dial to "Single picture".

3) Press "Flash" (the small button on the right top of the cam) and "Up" on the cross key simultan, hold them and turn "On" the power.

4) Press simultan "Flash", "Menu" and "Left". Now you are at the error code memory screen.

5) Press simultan "Flash", "Menu" and "Left" again and whoops here are the most interesting infos.

The camera information is interpreted below:

VER 1.0B : 001D -> Firmware version is 1.0B.

NO.: S010XXXXXXXXXX -> A 12-digit number with a "S" prefix. (Motherboard serial number?)

PWRCNT: 834 -> Power On Count, the number of times camera turned on.

SHTCNT: 5873 -> Shutter Count, the number of times shutter fired.

STBCNT: 80 -> Strobe Count, the number of times flash fired.

6) Turn "Off" the power.

This procedure works also with the lumic lc1.

Have fun :-)

Regards Peter

Awesome - Thanks for that.

There has been talk on this forum about two firmware levels. Now there is proof.

My firmware is 1.0A

Even more confusion.... Mine is Ver 1.09:001C

It had its sensor replaced about a year ago.

Thanks Pitti, after years this has surfaced at last. Really thanks.

Mine shows ver. 1.0b:001d for the firmware.

I bought this camera used in late 2006, if I'm not wrong, and AFAIK sensor has *not* been replaced. Actually I remember all the alarm about this issue came up a while after I got it.

Btw, this info shows that I probably mixed up cards with one of the other D/2's I had, as the picture numbering shows a count of 4.885 while it displays just 3.715 with your method.

Now, Pitti, any chance you can get this info for the Digilux 3 too?

Tried this one, sort of as button layout is different, but could not get it to work.

Thanks again.

Amazing, Pitti, a BIG thank from me.

Yes, it works perfectly on the Digilux 3 too. And got surprised by the shutter count of one of my D3's, actually it's a refurbished one and working flawlessly.

Funny how these infos got to stay hidden for such a long time.

Again thanks for pointing me to that page.

Thanks Peter - great fun.

Now, spill the beans on how to do it on a V-Lux1 as well ;)

You could look at the service manual of the panasonic fz50. At page 14 are some shortcuts about how to enter the service-menu. At the digilux 2 we had to repeat step 2 (page 16) to get the shuttercount. I don't know fi it works on the V-Lux too...

Well, I have no V-Lux. You have to try it yourself.

Can confirm it works :D

Same procedure as you listed originally - only slightly different keys

3) Press "Image Stabilisation" and "Up" on the cross key simultaneously, hold them and turn "On" the power.

4) Press simultaneously "Image Stabilisation", "Menu" and "Left". Now you are at the error code memory screen.

5) Repeat step 4. And voila!

And same caveat - do it at your own risk :(

I was surprised to see how many times my flash had been fired (I bought it used) - almost 20% of all photos. Great fun - thanks for the link to the service manual.

Many Thanks, Pitti ! Works good ! Very precise !

My Camera says :

Ver 1.0B.001D

Nr S02 04 09 15 0078

PWRCNT 2129

SHTCNT 4898

STBCNT 1543

These counters are active

The number can be read as follows :

S02=prefix

Date 04 09 15 = 15 sept 2004

0078 is a sequence nr

(infos match well with ME program)

On my camera the sensor was replaced in Solms in May 2007 but apparentlly they did not reset the counters.

I have downloaded the DMC-LC1 Service Manual- Interesting !

On my L1 the shortcuts from the link works very fine. Perhaps you forgot something?

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Set the shutter speed dial to the 8 position.

4. Press and hold the AFL/AEL button.

5. While holding the AFL/AEL button turn on the camera

6. Press and hold the [FUNC.2] button, then MENU/SET and ◀ (Left arrow) buttons together

7. Again, press and hold the [FUNC.2] button, then MENU/SET and ◀ (Left arrow) buttons together. The camera will show its usage information in two pages. Press the DISPLAY button to switch between the pages.

Thanks Peter. I have just purchased the body and no lens it attached. Could this be the reason why? surely not. I have done as follows:

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Set the shutter speed dial to the 8 position.

4. Press and hold the AFL/AEL button.

5. While holding the AFL/AEL button turn on the camera..

When I get to this stage screen/evf is blank or a regular menu pops up (where it was last left when powering down). No special menu in sight. With the D2 it pulls up the info immediately, but I must be doing something wrong on the L1 I am missing...

I have tried it without a attached lens, and it works too. Note: after turn on the camera (point 5) you will see the regular menu, but anyway you are now in the temporary service menu! Proceed the procedure with point 6 and you will see now the error-code-memory-screen. Now pepeat point 6 and voila, you are at the info screen.

Could your problem possibly be related to the fact that the equivalent to the Digilux 2 is the LC1 while the L1 corresponds to the Digilux 3?

Simonizer,

guess you're not doing anything wrong, point is that nothing is showing you're in service mode when you enter it, but if you go to the bottom of the Custom Menu you'll find one more option named "SENSOR CLEAN". this shows you're in, as in normal use it is not there.

The tricky part (for me at least, small buttons) comes when you have to press the menu and left arrow together while holding the Func2 button, but using the side of my thumb to press them both has made it easier for me.

I can vouch the sequence works well on either the D/3 and the L1, as I have them both, and it works alike with or without a lens.

Hope it helps.
