Curious discovery!

I just bought a well battered and used 90mm f/2 Mummicron-M - an E55 type made in Canada - which is a real 'user' and was at a price to match I should add. After having tested it and found it to produce good results I started cleaning it up. The engraved ring around the front element had obviously been glued in (rather crudely I'm afraid) and under gentle probing came out. Great I could clean the excess glue away and replace the ring. However when I had done so I noticed a curious thing!

The engraving ring has a screw hole in it and reading clockwise from the screwhole it says: LETTZ SUMMICRON-M 1:2/90 3437277 perfectly normally, BUT the reverse or underside of the ring is also engraved though the lettering is not filled in in white. Here the only difference is the serial number which is shown as 3391370!

Is this an early recycling attempt by Leitz Canada I wonder?

My Harmut Thiele Buch is telling that
s/n 3391370 is part of a lot 3391001 to 3392000
Summiron M 2 / 90 made in 1986

s/n 3437277 is part of a lot 3.436501 to 3437500
Summiron M 2 / 90 made in 1987.

There are lots of suprises like that, believe me !

Curios, but some possible explanation isn't difficult to imagine... after all, it comes from a factory... ring is a cheap component...isn't some little ERROR in the "back" engraving ? (a possibilty... something like "Mummicron" or "Summiron" )
