The lens is from 1937. Post a picture of the camera- if it is original to the lens, it is a Contax II or III.

The lens is a collapsible Sonnar, should be uncoated. Some were coated after being issued.

>> Joe Cocker

please, don´t be rude.

A MIELE is NOT a camera, but a CONTAX is, at least somehow ...

Default AW: So need now help with this camera its Contax

I think Mr Cocker was trying to make a valid point about the type of "help" being requested here and the way the enquiries are made.

Which reminds me of:-

Some time back my mum's ancient washing machine needed parts, my brother trotted off down to the local wholesalers and asked for a door seal for a 1976 Hotpoint whatever-it-was. The lads behind the counter started splitting their sides laughing. My brother grinned and agreed it had been a bit of a long shot. "No, sorry mate, we're not laughing at you", one of them said "only this morning we were having a clear-out and we asked each other 'would we ever need door seals for a 70's Hotpoint?'". With that he walked over to the bin took a package out and handed the seal to my brother. There was no charge. The machine is still going strongly.

Yes, your Miele might be worth hanging on to

Your Contax is from 1937. The letter indicates a batch of 99.999 cameras (of the whole Zeiss Ikon production).

If it has a photometer, it is a Contax III. If not, it is a II.

A great camera, nice to use, excellent results. Mine is a II, from 1937 too.

The machinism is very very complex. Not many repaimen like to work in them.

Good luck,

Martin

I just picked up a Rolleiflex with a 3.5 coated Xenar. Cleaned up nicely, needs a CLA on the shutter- but it does work. It was $15 at the local Antique shop. The owner said "This is a nice one, I knew you were going to buy it as soon as you walked in".

Wow ! a happy pick ! is it a Vb ? Repairing a Rolleiflex shutter is very easy and not costly... lot of labs know well the classical Compurs.

On the Contax- the lens dates to 1937, must be original with the camera. Nice combination, put some film through it! The Classic Sonnar can give some fine results, but best used with a lens hood. It takes 40.5mm screw-in filters and hood. At F4, it is quite sharp. I use one with my Leica, adapted to thread mount.

On the Rolleiflex- I just looked it up, looks like a 1950 model 4. I've got to find my Rolleiflex guide!
