Default What was this cap for?

Another question for the experts.

Along with some other stuff, I recently obtained what appears to be 42mm Leica body cap. I know it is 42mm because it fits my old Pentax SPII perfectly. It also has 42 stamped on the inside. What would Leica have made this for? It does fit the reversed hood for the older 135 Tele-Elmar, but I thought it used the more wrap around type.

Thanks again for your help.

The LEICA- character seems to be a bit off centre on this cap, this thing is NOT made by LEICA I presume.

Somebody wanted perhaps show off a bit with a wrong camera.

Best

I did compare the Leica logo placement to some of my other Leica caps, and it appears to be as centered as the others. The angle I took the picture at may have appeared to thrown the logo off center. It may very well be a non Leitz produced Leica cap. Wouln't be the first one I had. It was thrown in with an old swing out polarizer and some other stuff.

Really that nonsense! Hardly showing off carrying a camera around with a body cap on it!

I would suggest that this is from one of their technical cameras/intruments. Look up 'aristophot' - lots of various lens mounts.

David, can you post a pic of the other side of the cap, please? Does it look like a lens cap (ie to be pushed on a lens) or does it look like a body cap? Is it threaded or with a bayonet mount? What age does it look to be?

Thanks

Here is a picture of the other side of the cap. It looks to me more like a push style body cap. It is neither threaded nor bayonet. My uneducated guess would be 60's or 70's vintage or possibly newer. It is a flexible plastic. I will check into the idea of it being for their technical cameras/instruments.

Thanks everyone.

Sidebar tidbit - I tried taking a photo of the cap earlier with my Panasonic P&S to post, but the Auto Focus wouldn't. So here is the contraption that worked - a 135 Hektor in a shortmount on a bellows equipped Pentax K10.

I think it might be a lens hood cap as you suggested in your first post.

Nice Pentax setup by the way.

Gunnar is correct.

This is the early version of the cap for the IUFOO / 12575 hood. The early version snapped into the reversed hood, while the later version snapped over the reversed hood and had cut-outs for the hood's spring clamps.

Best,

Jan

Thanks everyone for the help.

For some reason, I missed noticing that the cap does snap in nicely to the reversed IUFOO / 12575 hood. I might just use it more than the later style since with my fat fingers I sometimes have trouble pushing in the tabs when the snap over cap is already on the hood.

At first I thought I was asking a silly trivial question, but it turned out very useful.
Thanks again.

Already working on my next question.
