Black Summaron Lenses

Recommended Posts

Surely the few ones were made in paint only : they belong to a time in which this was the process for black items... black anodizing entered later, and, above all, I think is highly uneven that a rather complex process as anodizing would be used for one-of-a-kind / special order items.

Here is a picture of one, what do you think?

I am trying to get a little info on black Summaron 35mm 2.8 lenses. I know they made some in black paint, but did they ever make black anodized lenses?

Thanks!

It is more likely that the lens was painted in black lacquer, as were very many later..

Curios item... is worth noting that the Summarons that would have been "logical" to be finished in black (the SM models for the "Swedish Army" black Leica IIIG) were on the contrary made in std. chrome (at least, all the "3 Crown" Summarons that I have seen are like this).

A Goggled Summaron in black paint is currently for sale on ebay... the seller writes clearly that is a fine made 3rd party repaint (with red feet distance numbers)

Those black Summarons do appear time to time on auctions.... here is one that was sold time ago from Westlicht : it had an autoritive expertise of originality (Van Hasbroek) and was sold for lot of money,
