ironringer Posted March 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can users please inform me how the APDOO delay timer is supposed to work? On my example the clock mechanism (round disc) winds properly, and the pull-up trigger makes it unwind smoothly, until the trigger clicks back down to stop the mechanism. But I do not see any movement of the internal "plunger" at the end of the unwind, so it would not push the camera release button. Is the plunger (shown in the second picture) stuck? Can this APDOO be taken apart and fixed? All advice is appreciated. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Hi ironringer, Take a look here How does APDOO delay timer work?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted March 21, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) There is a little screw, you see on your picture. Try to turn this a little bit in one or the oppposite direction.. The APDOO alone only fits the release button of a screw-mount body. For an M you need another little adapter - forgot the name - which you first screw onto the release button and then the Apdoo on top of it. With some patience and trying it even works for the M6, which has no device for shutter delay. Found the adapter's name OZTNO, or 14088. jerzy Posted March 21, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 21, 2014 this is how it looks on mine: - in engaged and released position the arrow is on 12 oclock (so opposite to one on your photo - you wind clockwise, full turn - after releasing the shaft which is pushing release btton start to move at apprx 3 oclock, this is slow movement, so you may not notice this - at position approx 3 minutes after 12 the shaft returns to its original position and this is faster movement. However, there is no screw on my delay timer, I have thin shaft, cca 2mm thick. This corresponds as well with the usage signs on some Leicas I have seen. On the other hand screw on your photo looks like original, so maybe there were more versions of delay timer. If it may be repaired? Yes, this is good on mechanical constructions that (almost) everything may be repaired. jerzy
luigi bertolotti Posted March 21, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) Uliwer is right : most probably, you must simply adjust the screw to fit correctly your release button : not all Leicas SM have the same thread length, and the screw was put there just for this (later, indeed, very first APDOOs don't have it... the "variations" of the following Leica models made this adjustement needed) : don't worry if, when dismounted, you see no apparent movement in the inner part : "tune" the screw so that, when mounted it does touch the top of the release button : I'd bet that it will work.... even if it must be rather old : from the finishing, looks a pre-war model postwar models (not sure if all of them) have the the charging ring in black, with a white dot, and a different engraving. ironringer Posted March 22, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted March 22, 2014 Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I wish to use my APDOO with a IIIf camera. I will wind and release the timer but now watch the center screw of the plunger. If it moves down at the end of the unwind cycle, then the system is working. If it does not move, I will unscrew this center screw and play with it a bit. Maybe the plunger mechanism is simply stuck after XX years of sitting in its cute leather case. I suppose I could try opening it; this device should not be more complicated than a Swiss watch ... From its clean appearance I think this is a postwar 1950s example, or even later. Collectors may know more about the versions and age.
