The period when the lens was produced was a pivotal time for rangefinder cameras which were being rapidly outpaced by cheaper and more advanced desiged SLRs' from Japan. The decisions about what would be manufactured in Canada were most likely contentious and this Summilux may have been a toe in the water with very few produced. Like any collectable, desireability, scarcity and condition set the price. In the world of Leica with so many short runs of a certain design or color combinations, I for one would not be surprised to see it sell at that price.
