philipus Posted March 7, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Learned members I have a Leica II, which began its life as a Leica I in 1931. As the image below shows, it lacks the shutter release guard. I wish to add an original one, if possible. DAG Camera sells a shutter release guard which is said to be for cameras up to the Leica IIIa, which, since it is chrome, would fit my camera very well. Can someone confirm that this is the kind that would have been on the camera way back when? http://www.dagcamera.com/images/SMguard1_000.JPG Perhaps there are other sources for such spare parts, too (I have checked ebay without luck). Thanks in advance Philip

M9reno Posted March 7, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) I know you can get NEW nickel ones from an eBay seller in Japan (got a couple for a Leica I last year). He says he can also do chrome. It was a good transaction. Aryel Posted September 16, 2022 Share #5 Posted September 16, 2022 (edited) Hello, Hope it is ok to bring back this thread. I am currently considering a very similar camera that misses the shutter collar. The rest seems really good and if it was not for this missing piece, I’d proceed straight away. Welcome, dear visitor! Does it prevent the shutter from going too deep? Many thanks 🙏 Edited September 16, 2022 by Aryel Forgot to say: this is a leica II converted to IIf
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! in terms of usability, does the missing collar matter? a.noctilux Posted September 16, 2022 Share #6 Posted September 16, 2022 (edited) @Aryelyou can use the camera without the collar, of course. 7 hours ago, Aryel said: in terms of usability, does the missing collar matter? Does it prevent the shutter from going too deep? the collar is there for esthetic "only" and has no functional role. Collars are lost because the shutter release cable of those days was made to be screwed outside, not inside ... you can see with key word FINOT (name of the cable release) Welcome, dear visitor! I did not realise that this can be removed to use a cable. Edited September 16, 2022 by Aryel
