Default Leica M3

Got a lovely one of ebay for £255 the other day - great price. Just run my first film through it. The camera works perfectly and is a delight to use. It's also a piece of history. To think this was made in 1955 but works better and feels nicer to use than many modern cameras.

Here's my gallery of photos of the beauty, and photos from my first film taken with it.

Hi Nick - great pictures, I really enjoy looking through them. Out of interest, which B&W film do you use? It seems to scan really well (I'm having some teething problems with mine)! Regards, Sean

That's a bargain M3! My e bay M2 was about £100 more which included a CLA and its as good as a new M, really its difficult to think of these as 'historical' cameras given that the current MP is basically the same thing.

People who don't know better are amazed when you tell them that the same camera is available new today.

Yea, M3 is always a pleasure to see...and what a bargain price ! But... looking at the pics... I was confirmed in my idea that a classic Silver Leica M is better with a silver lens...

I will agree, and the secret of the M3 is not the the camera itself.
It is the quality of the hand-held meter you use together with it.
I use a Sekonic L-758 Digital Master and it proved to be superior to the metering system of my M6 and M7.
I also get good result on my Sekonic L-398 Studio Deluxe. But too slow as compared to the L-758 instant result.
The battery of my M6 lost charge 3 months ago.
I never replace it and I use it like an M3.
