What do you keep 'em in...?

Good suggestions going on here, especially the one about Harris Tweed next to the skin but please note that this is about POUCHES not BAGS Bags I have aplenty. This is about what you can keep these often tiny lenses in while in your pockets or rucksacks, etc.

I use those little velvet pouches with the draw string that jewelry often comes in.

I have two vintage Omnica bags made for Leica screw mount. Each holds a screw mount body, sveral lenses and accessories. PM me if interested.

You can find them at most camera stores. They keep dirt out and provide protection to your lens from scratching and banging around. You can fit the lens into the pouch and pull the draw the strings tight to prevent the lens from falling out. Then you can put the lens in your pocket if you wish.

If you don't have any luck at your local camera store try getting a lens pouch on-line. I have a Canon soft lens pouch for every Canon lens I own (except the big lenses they come in cases and hard pouches).

I also have soft pouches for all my Pentax K and M42 mount lenses.

Once you get the size that your lens can fit into you are done.

You certainly aren't. Me too. The IIIf happily fits in a jacket pocket, either there or I carry it in my hand. I don't even have a neck strap for it. I seldom bother with other lens but if I do I'll put one in another pocket too. When it's at home it lives in its Never Ready Case to keep it relatively dust free.

What do I use for lenses? Neoprene (wetsuit material).
Down here we have neoprene in the form of stubbie coolers (beer can cooler) and they are the right shape and pretty cheap.
I use them on nikkor ais glass as well. I have a few "coolers" and even a spare -hey that must mean I need another lens! I even got an autographed one from Dirty Pierre himself! (offense language warning) Welcome to the Wacky World of International Stand Up Comedian

Nikon CP-2 "lens bubbles" , for EL-Nikkor enlarging lenses, plastic cases with 39mm thread mount bases. Most used camera stores dealing with Nikon clear them out fairly cheap. They are much newer than those made by Leitz and are usually in good condition. They are big enough to take a Summarit or Canon 50/1.2 LTM lens.

Many years ago I had the perfect case for an M outfit. It was rather like an attache case about 12"x 14" x 4" The compartments were beautifully lined in something like Chamois, in fact the whole thing was a delight, the outside was leather and the hardware of the highest quality. But apart from that I haven't got a clue re the make, except I think the name started with a 'B'.. I would dearly love one for my screw outfit. As to the thread question, I've one of those Leitz shoulder bags, I think mine originally was made for a small R outfit, nice quality and takes a couple of Ms.
my wife has just read this over my shoulder. She reckons the finish was 'Pigskin' and she also says I had another one for a Hasselblad outfit. She also thinks they were the camera bag equivalent to Louis Vutton and a bit precious..I don't care I still want one.

But if anyone has an idea re my first question I would much appreciate it. One thing I have just remembered, there was a much cheaper version with foam movable partitions.

was the name maybe benser? i remember that i saw once a bag which fits your description and it was from benser. sometimes they pop up at ebay.

Unfortunately not Laki. But you are right, the 'Benser' bag was made for Leica equipment. They consisted of variously sized outer cases and sets of inserts. The actual partitions were rather hard and nasty. However there is a Leica alternative for the screw camera but a bit difficult to come upon.

I re-use all my old socks, cut off at the ankle and then sewn up - there's an endless supply. Cameras go in a 'bobble hat' or similar outdoor type walkers' hat ....

I use small pouches like those used by Peter M. Smal pouch with a drawstring at the top. They keep everything together quite nicely (end caps, lens caps and lens). I actually wrap my M6 in a Domke wrap before storing it back in my camera bag. A little obsessive I know but it keeps out the dust and gives it a little more padding (Domke canvas bag).

The pouches come from a variety of sources. Old bags for light meters, jewelry, camera lens and so on. They just help keep the lenses from getting scratched and from clanging around in the bag!

Billingham make a range of little pouches that are good for smaller cameras although they are mainly designed for bits and pieces - with some pouches specifically designed to give added gear space to their bigger bags by hanging off the outside. I like the airline pouches but some of the pockets work well to and have tabs to hang off your belt or you can buy a shoulder strap to hang it there.

These little pouches are waterproof, give good protection and really look the part. They are reasonably priced too. (For Billingham gear that is.)

Similarly to the Billingham pouches, are there any pouches that can fit in a bag that would enclose an M8+35 Summicron+shade? Like the Rina pouch?

It actually works really well in the bag; the slickness of the bag and drawstring makes for easily reaching in when you loosen the drawstring clamp. Fits an M8 and a 35 perfectly.

Also has some nerd loops so you can string it up to your waist belt, ghetto-Batman-style.
