I was interested in finding out the initial production years of all Telyt types.

According to Erwin Puts http://www.imx.nl/photo/downloads/files/page70-leicapocket_pod1.pdf one finds:

• What would be a ranking order in terms of optical performance of all

the Telyts that can be focused to infinity on an M9 + VisoFlex III?

• Which Telyt including Telyt-R would perform best when adapted to a Nikon camera?

I understand that there can be different versions of the same Telyt type.

Thanks, K-H.

Well... fine questions... :o: what I can tell you is based on my own experiences on film and, later, M8 + Viso :

400 : I have all the 4 version and imho the better is the f 5,6, both in image quality (at center) and handling (though the 6,8 is lighter, but I prefer the Televit to the shoulder support of the 6,8); Same applies to 560 (have both the 5,6 and 6,8); indeed, to be realistic, the question of handling is someway not so important... truth is that with a M+Viso, tripod is often a must, with such focals.

200 : f4 better than 4,5, but little difference at "normal" f stops like f8 if the 4,5 is (as mine) of the postwar coated version.

280... much discussed recently... ;) : no doubt about V3 as the best.

Within some weeks, I'll be able to say something about the 800 6,3 on M8+Viso III... :), and if you find one of the 3 items of the cheap 1600, let us know... :D

I have no experience at all with R cameras... but think that the last modular Apo Telyt R are of another league : I think that our member and excellent wildlife photographer Doug Herr could say something about (if I remember well, he posted some of his splendid pictures in the forum, time to time).

:D...Quite clearly the newer APO objectives 4/280mm and Modul R 280/400/560 ;)

I like the 6,8/400mm a lot on my DMR, the problematic edge areas are not so visible any more and in the middle it is first-class!

Hi Luigi,

Many thanks. Starting with the Telyt 200/4. Mine is from 1961. It also seems to work just fine on bellows.

When my M9 was in Solms, I had to fall back on using a Nikon D3 for use with the Telyts.

Here are two images from that combination:

Hi Luigi,

Continuing with the 280/4.8 v2 on D3 (I am still waiting to get my v3 back):

and with bellows:

With regards to the 400, I am not familiar with 400/5 but have 400/5.6 and 400/6.8.

The Televits are certainly fun. Haven't gotten too much attention yet when using them.

On the 400/5.6 I seem to be noticing the curvature more than on the 400/6.8 so have been preferring the later. I need to use both Telyts more.

Best, K-H.
