Pecole Posted November 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) One of the most fascinating aspects of the Leitz product policy, is the wide interchangeability and adaptablity of its lenses and accessories. Just to give an example : I recently tested a 1931-vintage, uncoated 5cm nickel Elmar on an M8. Or my beloved Macro-Elmarit-R 60 on a Digilux 3. OK, the handling and results are not at today's standards, but it was possible! This principle was developed by Leitz for small accessories like filters. In the mid-fifties, when E39 threads appeared next to A36 and the various ones existing for standard lenses like the Summitar and the Summarit, Leitz offered a series of adaptor rings. Here are the five basic ones : SOOTF and SOOGZ are both designed to clap on A36 lenses (with clamping screw), and allow use of E41 Summitar or Summarit bayonet filters for the first, and E39 filters for the second. SOOQR allowed the use of E41 Summitar filters on 42mm lenses. SNHOO was for E39 filters on Summitar. And SOOEY for E41 Summitar and bayonet Summarit filters on E39 lenses.
