stratherb Posted March 5, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there anybody out there, who is able and willing to post a pic made by a 50 1,4 Lux 1. version from 1959 / 1960 ?? Cause I had problems to identify a lens, I think it´s a bastard with numbers and backpart from 1959, and other parts fron the 70 / 80ties.. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-sammler-historica/117936-identifikationsproblem-mit-1-4-50er-summilux.html Many thanks to all here... luigi bertolotti Posted March 6, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 6, 2010 Given that 1st version Lux 50 seem to be rare birds..., her's one taken with the last Summarit 50 1,5, wide open... in practice, is the same lens as the first Summilux. cbretteville Posted March 6, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 6, 2010 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Herb, Yes, I own one. It isn't my most used 50mm lens but in my opinion it is better than most give it credit for. It isn't on par with the current ASPH lens, and the pre-ASPH is better optically too. Non the less it has a certain charm that I like enough to keep the lens. I also like how it renders colours. Here are four shots taken over the last three years, all on the M8. This one was one of my entries on the "Many eyes, one camera" book we did in 2008. Shot at f2.8. Wide open a f1.4 Most likely also wide open at f1.4 Shot at f3.4 Cheers, Carl Edited March 6, 2010 by cbretteville

Neezer Posted April 10, 2010 Share #10 Posted April 10, 2010 (edited) Hello: this is my very first message on this board, so am not sure this if this is an appropriate place to ask. All the information about recognizing various iterations of the Summilux and Summicron is interesting and useful. However, I wonder if there is a link to a post here, or to an outside site, that shows image comparisons? Being in the mood for a 50mm, I would like to see the differences. It would be quite useful for all of us if someone shot the exact same scenes with the different designs so we could immediately compare resolution, contrast, color rendition, flare response, etc. Ideally, comparisons would show images such as "full sun landscape" - "overcast landscape" - "closeup" - "night-time including light sources" and "backlit" to cut through the limitations of verbal descriptions. If anyone near northern New Jersey has access to a basket of such lenses, I would be happy to join in for controlled tests. I have been a professional photographer for about 40 years, and am author of "How to Photograph Works of Art." Thanks very much! Karreaux Posted April 11, 2010 Share #11 Posted April 11, 2010 I have don't have the Type 1 but the Type 2 (1961) in chrome. Have to say this lens still does the job very well. Anyone an idea about what's this lens is worth ?
