Pete -

Very nice with the dominant, powerful sky, and the slim shadow of the earth. Nice balance.

Nice one Pete. Got any of the White Horse?

For those that don't know, "The Ridgeway" is an ancient, 5,000 + year old track that is probably the oldest road in Britain (if not Europe).

Wayland's Smithy (refer to othe old forum archives - several of us have posted pictures from there) is on this track.

For many years, IMO, it was blighted by the use of four-wheel drive vehicles, taking advantage of it's "Green Lane" status. Fortunately, IMO, these have now been banned over the most important stretches, and peace and traquility has once again returned. The foot deep ruts in the path left by these off-roaders will, no doubt, fade in time...

andy - thanks for that link. Do you know of any books that discuss the history of this path?

Lovely, Pete. I agree with Stuart that the balance works well. I suppose it might have been risky to include quite so much sky, but it holds the interest. Did you convert this from colour and, if so, how did the colour shot turn out?

Dan, have a look at this link: Home - The Ridgeway - National Trails

All the best,

Chris

Here is the original colour full-frame- hardly any colour at all

And I'll post some general views although they are of little artistic merit!

Thanks for commenting,

Pete

These views are from Barbary Castle on the Ridgeway above Swindon, looking South across the Marlborough Downs, and the massive earthworks of the Iron-Age "castle" itself; these extend over a huge area and would require a helicopter to do them justice.
Looking North over the old Wroughton airfield towards the Cotswolds; must have been quite exiting trying to land on the Northerly runway, diving down the hill and the flaring just in time!
Looking Eastwards, the Ridgeway runs over the crest in the distance.

Looks like I was not the first to shoot this location: V&A - Image
