Neue Welt Gasse Kristalnacht Memorial, Vienna

In Neue Welt Gasse, just a little west of the magnificent Schonbrunn Palace, stands this subtle memorial to just one atrocity of Kristalnacht 1938.

The memorial is made of glass and contains an image of the synagogue destroyed by thugs that awful night. Stand in front of it and you can see the synagogue standing once again - where it once was.

Look carefully, the darker trees are ghosts.
