Thank you for the comments

When I lived in Costa Rica people said that the crescent moon could "hold water". I mistakingly thought that this phenomenon was reserved for equatorial latitudes. I checked my camera after the fact......it was set on auto......I thought it was too bright and had actually stepped it down two full numbers.....I was too lazy to go back out into the cold.
