Winter is here but no show yet, just on the mountains and the horses are still outside. The volcano looms in the distance, no snow on it, might be hot!
The light on this one was very difficult, tried BW and that did not work well, the light was really this warm and strange. 90mm Elmarit. M8 |

You know that was exactly my reaction also, so I am now in the midst of printing it out in A2 size on my new Epson 3800. Cant wait to see it.
Thanks for the positive comment. Last edited by Julius Bjornsson : 11/25/07 at 12:34 AM. |

Actually (and I can't believe that I'm saying this) the "colour" makes it. Lovely shot.

Thanks all of you for the positive comments. I just printed it out and it is great. However I got one small surprise when looking at the A2 enlargement, something I simply did not see and that was a small airplane in the distance. A 100% crop shows this. you can see it as a little speck halftway in the picture above the horses on the far left. This is noticeable in the print, once again showing the fantastic resolution of Leica equipment. I was looking at the photo printed out, oohing and aahing and generally admiring my own work, when I noticed this and shouted something so all my family came running to see what all the commotion was about. We got little laugh out of that.
Once again, thanks for the very positive comments.

Color is what really makes this photograph stand out. Wow, a 3800, no doubt it looks great. The addition of the Skyhawk makes this a very special capture.

Thanks Stuart for your generous comments. By all means visit Iceland, some great photo opportunities. Especially during summer, then we have light for some twenty something hours but most of it is twilight, and I always find that the most interesting time. Glaring sunshine (which we do not get very often) I dont like and of course not to dark. Twilight is my time of day and makes for the most interesting photo opportunities. So 7 or 8 hours of twilight in summer is great. And then there of course is winter, for example we are now getting into the time of year when it does not get really light. So we just get twilight, even on bright, "sunny" days, it often is as in this photo. So a tripod is obligatory, or at least something to lean against, at least until Leica come up with better high ISO.

It's such a lovely pic that inspires other kinds of printing... what about a pano-size, cropping a lot the frame ? You lose that terrific dark sky, but horses and mountain make me think something fine, and different, can result..

Or even this. Now this is a very small crop, but I think it looses something.

Exactly, Julius, your crops render well my idea : the 1st has the advantage to preserve tonalities in the sky, but by the point of view of visual impact, the second is very strong: I'll bet that with the right process & print, it could became a fantastic horizontal poster with a length in the range of 60/80 cm... it deserves it, it's a very very wonderful pic.
What about this version ? I like so much this image that enjoy a lot to work on it in PS... and it's a simple little JPG for posting ! I can imagine what kind of splendour you can achieve working finely on the DNG... the superb behavior of M8 in the shadows has to be valued... look at the horses... (of course, it's so delicate that screen is a very critical factor... hope you'll see like me...) Last edited by luigi bertolotti : 11/27/07 at 11:42 AM. |
