Dan -
Superb composition, light, color and geometry. For those not in the know this section of Manhattan (DUMBO) in Chinatown stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. Not unlike Soho is South of Houston, Noho is North of Houston, and Tribeca is the TRIangle BElow CAnal |

Exposure and composition are perfect. I always learn something new about our world, thanks for the info, Stuart.

Sorry Dave but Stu is correct, DUMBO = Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, not Brooklyn Bridge.
Dan, great picture, beautiful composition, lighting and color.

Beautifully exposed, and composed Dan.
Help me out with the string of white lights in front of the building on the left, will you?

Right, and wrong. DUMBO is indeed an acronym for "Down Under the MANHATTAN Bridge Overpass". (My bad; just love that Brooklyn Bridge, though). However, the neighborhood known as Dumbo is still in Brooklyn, and nowhere else. See, e.g., Dumbo NYC, Brooklyn (DumboNYC.com).

Dan, great image & wonderful treatment. The chit chatting is a superb example of just how provincial New Yorkers are (myself included)! As agent Starling once asked Hannibal Lechter, I wonder what would happen if you pointed that high powered lens on the queen of the bridges, the Brooklyn Bridge. As you know there a almost mirror view from Manhattan east to Brooklyn between old tenements, of the Brooklyn Bridge. Ben

Thanks all for the comments....this is indeed taken from the Brooklyn side of the river.
Andy - that string of lights represents the second or third time I've seen this happen with this lens. I do have a protective UV filter on the front of that lens - and while I am aware of what the purists might think about this, I'd prefer to protect something as uncommon as this piece of glass. I strongly suspect it is a reversed, upside down image of the lights on the bridge due to the filter placement. I need to remember to remove the filter next time I am shooting light sources such as this to avoid repeat performances. Other recent work with the lens does not display such behavior under normal lighting conditions. Again, I appreciate the comments. |
