I like the starkness of the architecture and the treatment really suits this.

I like this one, it has apocalyptic qualities.
Thanks for sharing. Ed. .

Many thanks for your comments. Attraction -- hardly! But it is a landmark. When it opened (in the 1960s? 1970s?) as The Post Office Tower it had a revolving restaurant near the top. Long since closed! I think you used to be able to go up to the top to admire the view (without dining). As this is the view from my office window, I've got quite a few of these. All the best, John

The film grain has added to the image of the sky - it's interesting how many icons of the 60's and 70's have started to look a little dated - there's definitely a 'Captain Scarlet' feel to that tower now...

It was built in the mid 1960s. The Wikipedia article BT Tower - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia contains some hilarious details. Worth a quick read.

Very unusual aspect on this very nice shot. I can't quite get my bearings, although I have a feeling that Ampthill is in the distance. For a time I lived in halls of residence in Charlotte Street, pretty much below the then Post Office Tower. I recall we all used to wince a little at the start of the Goodies when a giant cat runs up the tower and makes it tumble down! Of course Bill Oddie, on of the trio of Goodies, is now better known as a keen ornithologist and is apparently to be seen haunting Hampstead Heath on a good day. LousiB

Louis --
Actually Ampthill is off to the right of the picture, more or less at right angles to the line of sight in the photo. The picture is looking towards Paddington Station (say). Gower Street and Tottenham Court Road run left to right, across the frame. John |
