On my Malta break I attempted to expand on my typical shooting style by setting the lenses wide open for most subjects and choosing more intimate subjects.
Here's an example of a near subject. Do you think this is worthy? I'd appreciate your comments. Rolo

It's his magic wand.
![]() Lovely colour, Rolo. Nice to see you grappling with colour again (I'll get my coat...) What film did you use?

Your comments are much appreciated and help a lot.
I set out for Malta with recently acquired Summilux lenses and a real intention of using my MP to shoot images with a narrrow plane, much as others use their Noctilux'. After a year of banging away with a Canon DSLR, I found I'd become pretty dependant on chimping, zoom lenses and auto focus and found the MP quite unproductive. I left Malta with just six films exposed and on first sight the scans looked very unworthwhile and I was beginning to wonder about future direction for my personal stuff. The convenience of reading a CF card with 500 images on is quite addictive. As I've got to play with them my spirits have risen and some shots have been very rewarding. The straight scan of one above looked nothing like my original vision, but the rework is precisely the effect I was seeking, although achieved in a different way. I liked the end result, but wondered if my new approach had merit in itself. Thank you for confirming that they have appeal. As I return to my Malta folder and look at the posted images, I'm beginning to surprise myself how many satisfying pics can be culled from just 6 rolls. Here's the other end of the blue pole. Many thanks. Rolo

Hi Andy, it was Fuji Superia 100. I prefer slow films and Summilux' has to have slow film to shoot wide open. Bought the film from 7 Day Shop for £1, developed for £1 and scanned for £1. A week's shooting for £18 ! They were the only films shot in the month. Dividing £3,300 by £18 gives a 15.5 year payback on an M8 ! I'm on my way to Stephens' ! Rolo

I'd still like to know where you get film processed and scanned for two quid...

I only keep it close to my chest because many take the p*ss out of those that use cheaper services - did you see the recent Jessops thread on RFF ? My supplier is so good to me that when I recently bought an XPAN I took the first test film in, he developed the roll and adjusted his scanner and discovered it could read XPAN negs on the roll. He scanned the roll and then printed them and didn't charge me for anything. Now, I believe an XPAN film costs a fortune £20?? to develop and scan. Mine's two quid ! I'll be at the bar on the 16th.
