pauledell Posted December 20, 2014 Share #4 Posted December 20, 2014 Yes, stargazing is a delightful escape from the pressure of the real world, but it is hard to stand in the outside at night when the temperature is cold. Best done in the more moderate weather. Paul

flyalf Posted January 8, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted January 8, 2015 May I ask your settings? I find the limiter on some isos to be quite... well... limiting when it comes to star shot... M + WATE @16mm. 32s. f/4. ISO 400. The model is myself. A hard job to stand still in 32 s . I had help from a friend to paint foreground with LED light. Its a tradeoff between capturing the movement of aurora/stars and minimising noise/sharpness. Normally I will not exceed ISO 800, but rather underexpose if needed and correct in post. So if the idea was to only photograph aurora I would limit to 2s and sarifice other. But normally I take nightscapes with aurora as just an added benefit, and then i use 8 - 60s to maximise SNR, dynamics, colors etc. See: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/landscape-travel/359418-fords-norway-miss-aurora.html Thanks for watching!
