Default Indonesian Volcano Panorama

This a >180 degree panorama, mode on the rim of the 6 km wide caldera of Rinjani Volcano on Lombok. Lombok is the first big island east of Bali.

The top of Rinjani, left in the picture, is the second highest peak in Indonesia, after the snow capped mountains - not for much longer - on New Guinea.

Crater rim at photo point: 2650m:
Garmin GPS details: 01/08/2007 16:50:08 2650 m S8 23.049 E116 24.011

M8 plus WATE at 18mm. The V/UR filter probably caused the reflections at the right.

Sander -

Gorgeous, with exquisite light, color, detail, clarity, depth (difficult to get across in a narrow pano) and composition.

It is a 2000 meter climb. Some people do it in one day: your have to start very early. The decent is done in one day, and your limbs suffer for days afterwards :-)

We climbed it in a comfortable two days. I would do it again tomorrow if you invited me: it was just wonderful!

The view from the rim is breathtaking. We arrived at 15:00h with lots of clouds in the caldera. It cleared totally later, till sunset, and the views unto Bali were great.

See for some more pics: Sander and Ger on Tour including a pano of the jungle, taken half way, at the stop for the first night. All M8 pictures with WATE.
