stuny Posted July 18, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) Lovely. I think it was in the 1970s my father relit the falls. Before specifying the final installation we installed a 10kw xenon lamp on the Queen Victoria building roof along with a large Kliegl spotlight, and mounted a second 10kw xenon on a flatbed along with a generator and experimented with that light in the gorge shooting up at the plume, as well as upriver backlighting the plume. I remember cutting a piece of sheet metal to have a maple leaf shaped hole and used it to project a maple leaf on the cliff between the two falls via the Klieglight. The single xenon test lamp atop the Queen Victoria Building was brighter than the combined output of the 14 or 16 carbon arc lamps already up there. If I recall, the final installation had about 18 xenons and a Klieglight on the building, one xenon in the gorge and one xenon up-river. The xenon bulbs were from DuraTest, and the DuraTest rep flew to Niagara with us, hand carrying two spare bulbs in clear plastic cases. The security people studied the bulbs for a few minutes before letting us proceed to the gate. Edited July 19, 2014 by stuny
