Michael Hiles Posted July 15, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 15, 2014 These two pictures are superb. The Monochrom output quality leaves me speachless. Could you describe your printing technique a little more?

fotografr Posted July 15, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) Thank you for the kind words. Metal prints are made by printing the digital image onto transfer paper which is laid face down onto a 1/8th inch thick sheet of aluminum that has a polyester coating. This is then heated in an oven to 400 degrees at which point the dyes in the transfer paper turn into a gas which is infused into the coating on the surface of the metal. When I prepare the files, I increase the canvas size by adding white border. That way, the prints don't have to be matted or framed. I adhere mounting strips on the back of the print with a strong 3M adhesive so they are ready to hang. The archival rating for these prints is around 300 years and they're very easy to care for. If they get dirty, a Windex type product and paper towels can be used to clean them. Some good labs for this process are West Coast Imaging, Aspen Creek Photo (that's who I use), Bay Photo and White House Custom Colour. I quite agree about the output quality of Monochrom images. It's easily the best camera I've ever owned. Edited July 15, 2014 by fotografr
pauledell Posted July 15, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 15, 2014 Brent, These two pictures look like they could stand beside any shot taken by a master photographer with a LF camera. These are wonderful. The dynamic tones and lighting are perfect. Paul
fotografr Posted July 15, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted July 15, 2014 Thank you, Paul. Your words are most kind and greatly appreciated.
platypus Posted July 16, 2014 Share #7 Posted July 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Brent, these are so impressive! I particularly like the second one. When you say 20x30 "format" do you mean size? And, if so, are you talking inches or millimetres? May I also be rude enough (apologies) to enquire as to what you sell them for? If I were anywhere near Wisconsin I would be there in a moment cash in hand, thanks for the invitation, but I'm so frustrated as I would love to see them, Paul's summation of the quality is spot on!!

stuny Posted July 16, 2014 Share #11 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) Brent - Those are exquisite, and I'd love to see them printed on the white painted aluminum. Sadly you're about 1000 miles away. Congratulations on the exhibit, and I wish you great success with it. I assume we'll be able to see all 31 on Tamarack's site (http://tamarackgallerymadison.com/exhibitions/) come August, and no doubt they will be for sale. fotografr Posted July 16, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) Thank you all very much. Your support means a lot to me as we are all bound together here by our love of photography. The prints will all be listed on the Tamarack website which Stuart kindly posted a link to. The prints are sized at 20x30 inches, which includes a white border of about one and one half inches all around. They will all be priced at $500. Michael Hiles Posted July 17, 2014 Share #17 Posted July 17, 2014 I am sorry I cannot get there in person. These pictures are simply wonderful. Technical perfetion with the eye of an fine artist. Did you apply any judgment to the exposures, or did you let the camera decide? The long tonal scale is absolutely perfect.

A miller Posted July 22, 2014 Share #19 Posted July 22, 2014 Hi Brent - a little late to the party here, but lucky for me it was merely late and not never! i LOVE the series! Not only are the tones stunning, but so is the composition. I love your effective use of light and (in many cases) motion. Were you using a blue or green filter in any of these photos, particularly in those shots in which the sand is dark and sky is light? However you achieved this, it is really cool. i know this was a lot of work and i wish you the utmost of success and satisfaction. Best, Adam
ravinj Posted July 23, 2014 Share #20 Posted July 23, 2014 A bit late, but the two shots are SUPERB. Makes me plan a visit to the Oregon coast one of these days. Best, -- R
