Robert,

What a wonderful set! I love the last one and I find it amazing to see that imposing cathedral almost over that fragile and beautiful building! It must be interesting to see if there is a kind of passage going up to the cathedral from the building that seems to be the "residence" and maybe the offices of the people in charge!

Hello Euston.

These photo's I really like.I love the old architecture. The great design .Also these images have this wonderful colour which really bring out the ages of these building in great detail.

And of course they also have this romantic feelings,This Leica X.Vario in your capable hands is like the brush of a great painter.Bravo: John Basso. :)

Thank you very much, Iduna. I did do a bit of work on these in the digital darkroom - mainly to lift the shadows. I wanted to reveal some of the detail without losing the overall sombre tone of the scene itself. Anyone who uses the X Vario as a stand-in for an M9, as I do, will not be disappointed at the range of adjustment available in the image files.

Judging from the full-size images, I think these will print well. I’m going to get Whitewall to make me large prints of the last two.

I need to find an excuse to return to Durham in the summer when the leaves are on the trees or autumn when the colours turn. At those times of year, the mood of these scenes is totally transformed. Come to think of it, that’s reason enough for a return trip.

What an amazing setting! I love the layered view that gives us the first approach and the bittersweet inscription. Then the closer views give a detailed feel for the place.

I think it is a great idea to revisit when the seasons change and I look forward to seeing what the place looks and feels like then.
