Walking His Old, Old Dog

Brent,

This wonderful shot is the perfect testament to a loving master and his faithful dog. The atmosphere and tones set the stage for this sad event.

I can't help but remark of how this picture tugged at my heart having lost two of our beloved dogs earlier this year, one from arthritis at the age of 12 and the other from a stroke at the age of 7.

The most difficult decisions in my life have involved ending the life of a dog or cat that had become part of our family. Even knowing from the beginning that their life spans are so much shorter than ours, when the time comes it is wrenching. Personally, I think it's on the same level as losing a family member.

I did have to chuckle to myself later, because when I went to his house to drop off a print of this image he quickly thanked me and said, "I don't have time to talk now because the acupuncturist is here working on her."

This turned out to be a friend of mine out with his very old dog, but I didn't realize it at the time I shot this due to the foggy conditions. I made a print for him because the dog won't be around much longer. It's 16 and very arthritic.

Outstanding!
