This temple near the beach close to Sendai, northeast Japan, survived the tsunami -- sort of. (M9, 2.8/24 Elmarit ASPH.)

Indeed. I nearly posted this on the Architecture section. Because there are no internal structural walls, the tsunami surged through without destroying the temple. The heavy roof and the construction method also helps the building resist earthquakes.
