A miller Posted March 29, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) M9 with my "new" $400 50mm Red Scale f3.5 (screw mount version) lens (yes, I am happy - and proud ) This Church, and many like it in NYC, in many ways seems out of place compared to its modern surroundings. One could easily mistake this for a church in Mexico or Spain. My only regret is that I neglected to include the gargoyle on the top center out of my frame lines Welcome, dear visitor! hsw Posted March 29, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 29, 2013 there's exquisite detail in the archway and your new lens seems to have captured it well. When you go back and reframe for the gargoyle, you can get some that capture those intricacies. Cheers, Henry
A miller Posted March 29, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted March 29, 2013 Thanks, Henry, I most certainly will do. In the meantime, here's a portrait version of the same entrance. A little closer to the intricacies of the doorway; but not close enough to do it justice!! Best, Adam Welcome, dear visitor! hsw Posted March 29, 2013 Share #4 Posted March 29, 2013 The artisans who created these just amaze me! Thanks
pauledell Posted March 30, 2013 Share #5 Posted March 30, 2013 Adam, Definitely, your lens did capture the detail and texture of the building with lovely results. I also like the composition of the original version with the people, the excellent tones and of course, the sharpness. Paul
platypus Posted March 30, 2013 Share #6 Posted March 30, 2013 These are both very strange and interesting. I think I prefer image # 2 with the contrast of that extraordinary doorway and the lone person crouched on the steps. Very thought provoking shots.
A miller Posted March 31, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted March 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks to all for your kind feedback. Fortunately for me, this church is right across the street from the playground that we spend many hours during the weekend. It's on 1st avenue and 66th street. I honestly did not even come close to appreciating the detail around the entry-way until I took a close look after posting these pics. I am now on a mission to capture a better-framed image along the lines of the first, with some close-ups at interesting angles of the arch-ways. Thanks again!
