Michael Geschlecht Posted January 30, 2013 Share #14 Posted January 30, 2013 Hello Again Andy, Can you tell us all a little about these stones? Best Regards, Michael
andybarton Posted January 30, 2013 Author Share #15 Posted January 30, 2013 Michael These stones are at a place called Calanais, on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides, a string of islands on the extreme north west of Great Britain and Europe. They were erected roughly 2,900 years BCE, so pre-date Stonehenge, often seen as Britain's greatest pre-historic monument. They were erected before the pyramids of Egypt. If you go there at the right time of year, including mid-summer when my photographs were taken, you can be the only person there. I have posted several other shots from here since July last year. It is a truly magical place.
Michael Geschlecht Posted January 31, 2013 Share #16 Posted January 31, 2013 Hello Andy, The British Isles & Continental Europe have many stone & wood henges. They are part of a Celtic culture that covered much of Europe as well as part of Turkey before the rise of Rome. I think the only part of Europe not included was a large portion of Italy. Thank you for the information. Best Regards, Michael
platypus Posted February 1, 2013 Share #17 Posted February 1, 2013 A very powerful image. Wonderful textural feel and very mood indigo, but not depressing at all, very subtle. Love it. Thanks, Dee.
