stuny Posted May 9, 2012 Share #3 Posted May 9, 2012 Marc - Lovely, but it feels a touch over sharpened.
marc_dufour Posted May 9, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted May 9, 2012 Thank you, Michael ! Stuart, You're right, I prepared the picture this morning, with another computer and screen, a mistake. Thanks for your comment.
pauledell Posted May 9, 2012 Share #5 Posted May 9, 2012 Marc, A lovely shot with the desolate landscape and the colors. As far as the over sharpening, maybe, but I love it as it is. These are the results I always sought when using a large format camera. Paul
marc_dufour Posted May 9, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted May 9, 2012 Paul, Your comment reminds the first time I saw large format photos by a friend of mine. I was so shocked by can to count the leaves in the trees of his landscapes pictures ! Years later I got Mamiya 645, then a RB67, then an English clone of Linhof Technika... I suppose I can't avoid to look for the most accurate sharpness, maybe falling in excess, time to time. Thank you so much for your kind comment
Iduna Posted May 13, 2012 Share #7 Posted May 13, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Marc, it is a good shot and an impressive scenery. In spite of the "sharpness-discussion" which is always an issue (thanks for the disussion) I like it. to its pastellic character a less sharp version might be even more suitable. But may be it is better to look into this in a larger size.
leicamann Posted May 13, 2012 Share #8 Posted May 13, 2012 Nicely done, there is no need to use USM if ..you use Leica glass, process from RAW..I even turn the USM off in RAW, its not necessary. The digital tools we have today especially Photoshop CS6 and Camera RAW 7.2.. the use of USM is starting to become redundant. I think the Canon, you can turn off the anti aliasing . The nice thing about the DMR is that there is none, the drawback is additional noise and moire. For the most part in landscapes it pretty easy to focus... push to "infinity" and shoot..so sharpness and "in focus" should not be an issue. Thanks for sharing Cheers, JRM
marc_dufour Posted May 13, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted May 13, 2012 Iduna, John, When I open a RAW file, I'm often astonished by the wealth of detail I can see at 100% scale... BTW, I shoud need more than 3 screens, side by side, as the one I got (24') to can see the whole width of the picture (5616 x 3744 pixels) I like it. It's the closest I can approach the reality I took in the picture. The closest, but no t the reality. So, when I have to reduce it to a 960 pixels width file to may upload, the loss is so huge, I don't worry to increase the sharp, just to recover a part of the impression I had, taking the photo and seing it later at its full scale. What we upload are just truncated impressions, not realities. Thanks for looking, appreciation, comments and interest.
Iduna Posted May 14, 2012 Share #10 Posted May 14, 2012 Marc, yes, you are completely right, the loss of quality while downscaling is enormous and worth to complain about but still, we have to grapple with these atrocities. Thanks for information.
