jimofnyc Posted March 19, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 19, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've often thought about getting out of Manhattan and disappearing into the American West. This town looked like a possibility but there was no Walmart. Perhaps before the inter-state highways were built, perhaps before all the valuable minerals had been mined out. I should have spent more time than just taking this picture. I really should have talked to the locals to find out what they do here, but there was no one around... M8, 50mm Summilux M asph. Thanks for looking, Jim
Advertisement Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Hi jimofnyc, Take a look here Nevada's Great Basin. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pauledell Posted March 19, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 19, 2012 Jim, A nice shot that depicts the area very well, but if you go there in the summer, the heat is really cranked up. The locals are probably at Los Vegas in the casinos. Paul
jimofnyc Posted March 19, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted March 19, 2012 But it's a dry heat Paul....I've never been out there in the dead of summer. This photo was taken last April and the wind was really blowing the whole time. It may be really hot but with the wind and low humidity it really doesn't feel that bad. I just noticed that I was always thirsty and drank bottle after bottle of water...
Spo Posted March 19, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 19, 2012 Nice shot, how about a B&W version, may make it look more dramatic
jimofnyc Posted March 19, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted March 19, 2012 I think it looks even more forlorn and bleak...

brill64 Posted March 20, 2012 Share #7 Posted March 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) i like the blue glow of those mountains rising in the background, dwarfing the haphazard sprawl of a town clinging to the foreground. i think you've captured what you set out to capture very well.. pauledell Posted March 20, 2012 Share #8 Posted March 20, 2012 Another case of the same shot presented in different ways can be so different. I think the color version is restful while the b&w version shouts out with its dramatic tones Both are equally good, it's for the viewer to decide their preference. Paul I agree with Paul, sometimes it is difficult to make a decision. but it is always interesting to discover if a shot works in both versions, and this is working definately. This photograph reminds me of Black Rock where Spencer Tracy spent a Bad Day. Ken.
