Advertisement Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Hi NZDavid, Take a look here From the air in a classic. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gbealnz Posted March 17, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 17, 2012 Nice David, as were the other few threads, got that nor'west look about the lake (Tekapo?) shots. Gotta say though, the D5 gives a nice image, hard to tell it and the M9 shots apart on the forum posts anyway. Looking at one myself, had the NEX5, but the camera with a kit zoom isn't really in the "compact" category. Gary From the other island.
NZDavid Posted March 17, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted March 17, 2012 Cheers Gary. Lake Ohau, that one, should have said. Yeah, the D-Lux 5 is a fine performer, I am always pleased with the results. Real difference would be apparent in big blow-ups but D-Lux still does well at 12 x 18, possibly bigger.
pauledell Posted March 17, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 17, 2012 Excellent shots from the old biplane. Indeed, the shots from the D-Lux 5 are quite impressive with the vivid colors and sharpness. Paul
leicamann Posted March 18, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2012 Magnificent views.. however..there is severe clipping happening in the highlights resulting is pure cutout like holes in the image..again there are ways to avoiding that, but the default /Auto settings will not give you that. Thanks for sharing Cheers, JRM
Bob Jackson Posted March 18, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 18, 2012 I have both a D Lux 4 & 5, they are always surprising me with their outstanding performance. My M8 is jealous, I'm sure.

brill64 Posted March 23, 2012 Share #9 Posted March 23, 2012 terrifying...i mean the bi-plane. do you hv any shots shots from upside down?
NZDavid Posted March 24, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted March 24, 2012 Dopaco, the D-Lux 5 is an excellent camera -- the main difference over the D-Lux 40 is longer focal length, 24-90 instead of 24-60, and improved dynamic range and sensor. But there may well be a new model this year, and watch out for the Leica announcement on May 10. brill64, it was a nice and gentle flight. The Grumman Ag Cat reaches only 80 knots or so but is highly maneuverable and takes off and lands in a very short space. There's also a Pitts Special (near Christchurch I think) in which you can do aerobatics like looping the loop.
