Advertisement Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Hi a.j.z, Take a look here Burning Sky over the Alps. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
richam Posted January 7, 2012 Share #2 Posted January 7, 2012 A hot sky contrasted by a foggy valley that makes one shiver. Terrific contrast and composition.
Marquinius Posted January 7, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 7, 2012 Andreas, Lovely landscape and a "wow" sky. But why so hesitant in post processing it a little further? I mean, putting in things that weren't there in the first place is a step beyond what I would like. But dodging and burning, working some magic with the best part of HDR to get more detail in that foreground, why not? The best photos you see on this forum have been worked and re-worked until they were perfect. As did the photographers of film era.
a.j.z Posted January 7, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted January 7, 2012 Thanks for your comments! Marco, in most cases I rather prefer to have my photos look like I saw the actual scene. In reality there was not more detail to see in the foreground and it would imho look artificial if you saw more detail. Although they are quite fashionable, I am thus no particular fan of most HDRs as they do not look real. However, I sometimes work more on photos if for technical reasons the sensor just cannot capture, what I saw (due to a lack of dynamic range). This was not he case here. Marquinius Posted January 7, 2012 Share #5 Posted January 7, 2012 Andreas, I am with you all the way. And HDR is mostly garish. But the tech side can be used to enhance photos to more depth. The trick is to stay FAR away from the "effect". Back to your photo: whatever you have seen, in the end you must have perceived white snow. I mean, that's how our brain works. So how to get the snowy bit just that tad whiter ... See it as an exercise, not a necessary change to your photo. It's fine as it is.
pauledell Posted January 7, 2012 Share #6 Posted January 7, 2012 Andreas, Stunning sky with the sunlight along with the fog hanging over the ground creates a beautiful atmospheric feeling to it. Paul

tmldds Posted January 9, 2012 Share #8 Posted January 9, 2012 It must have been a spectacular scene. It reminded me of the beautiful and fiery sunset in Sedona, Arizona. Tri:)
allamande Posted January 9, 2012 Share #9 Posted January 9, 2012 Andreas, This is a gorgeous scene and you've captured it beautifully! Ece
e1k3 Posted January 9, 2012 Share #10 Posted January 9, 2012 The sky is terrific, and some of the orange light is still visible in the fog below. Like this photo very much. It may seem pedantic, but I would crop out the dark top right edge.
a.j.z Posted January 9, 2012 Author Share #11 Posted January 9, 2012 Many thanks for the kind comments! @Michael: the place is called Alpl, it is about one hour drive from Vienna to the southeast. @e1k3: You are right.
