stuny Posted August 27, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 27, 2011 Lovely and dramatic. How did you select a 32 second exposure?
Tibicen Posted August 27, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted August 27, 2011 Lovely and dramatic. How did you select a 32 second exposure? Out of laziness...it's the longest time possible in "A"-Mode. I knew, in this darkness with only a few street lights so far away at f8, ISO 160, the result at 32sec would always be grossly underexposed. Experience taught me that a lightning (or something similar, for example fireworks) would give just the amount of light to expose correctly at these settings. So you aim your camera in the direction of the (expected) lightning and hope for the best... A fairly long exposure time is useful, because chances for "catching" one or several lightnings increase. But, as the amount of light is mostly determined by the lightning, exposure time of, say, 10 to 30 sec will always do the trick, provided some lightning appears. Forgive me for being so epic. I suppose you knew all this already... Thank you all for your kind comments, Claus

SJP Posted March 19, 2012 Share #9 Posted March 19, 2012 Great!! I like the weird dusk/night color temperature as well as the fantastically sharp lightning. Thanks for explaining the exposure stuff.
Tibicen Posted March 19, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted March 19, 2012 Impressive, and brave? No, actually I'm a coward. I own an VW T5 (Van). A car is reasonably safe as it represents a Faraday Cage...Tripod stood in the rear compartment, I simply opened the window... Since we are almost neighbours in OWL I am delighted to know somebody does a good job here. This region is not to be underestimated. Mal sehen, was es noch so gibt...bis zum nächsten shot.
