phancj Posted October 23, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2010 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) All entries for the inaugural X1 photo challenge themed "Harmony" are to be posted here. Size restrictions, posting format, etc as per forum rules. Postings are accepted henceforth till end of this month (31st October 2010) Good Luck everybody, and remember there are nice photo engraved prizes for the 3 winners!! The rules are: Leica X1 Challenge Rules: Introduction: The X1 Challenge is an occasional competition on the Leica User Forum to celebrate and encourage use of the X1. This is a test of the skill of photographers worldwide using the same basic camera and getting the best from it. It is open to all Leica User Forum members who own or have use of a Leica X1. Shooting theme and period: In order to participate you should shoot no more than 36 exposures (on a trust basis) using a Leica X1 camera, in line with the theme of "Harmony" Shooting Period: Now till 24th October 2010 Posting Period: 25th October till 31st October 2010 (I will open new thread for posting) Voting Period: 1st November till 14th November (I will inform of new thread for voting) Allow for a week of tabulation and computation, announcement will be made a week later. I do need volunteers if possible, please PM me if you want to help specifically with admin matters (I am known to be terrible with charts, tables, etc). All prizes will be sponsored by me. Post processing: All images entered must adhere to Leica User Forum posting rules on dimensions and file size. Participants are encouraged to pre-visualise and preset their cameras and enter an image with the minimum of post processing. Extensive post processing (beyond levels and sharpening) is not within the spirit of the competition. It is not banned, but should be declared at time of posting. Ultimately, the best photographer should win, not the most adept post processor. Entering your image: Select your shot that in your view best matches the theme and post it onto a single thread set up for the purpose by the organiser. Please give it a title. The thread will be open for postings ONLY but NOT for voting until a declared date to allow all entries to be posted before voting starts. Your entries are not anonymous - feel free to include a short description of/explanation of your image. Voting: Voting will then be opened. Votes may then be cast on the following basis: Three points for best, two points for second and one point for third, in the format: "Image XXXX - 3 points Image YYYY - 2 points Image ZZZZ - 1 point" You MUST cast three votes in total - one or two votes will be regarded as a "spoiled ballot" and not counted in the overall total. Voting runs for two weeks. One vote per member, no voting for your own image. The winner gets the right to set the theme for the next X1 Challenge. Prizes as follows: Winner: One mystery Grand Prize and a choice of another Keyring/Mobile Charm(with accessory for attachment to iPhone) 1st and 2nd Runner-Up: Choice of Keyring/Mobile Charm(with accessory for attachment to iPhone) All prizes include laser engraved winning shot plus challenge winner details including name, country, details, whatever you want on the other side! Prizes will be mailed by post to winners. Edited October 25, 2010 by andybarton

mattnnz Posted October 25, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 25, 2010 Here is a portrait of a 19 old boy who with his family runs a floating fish market in Ha Long Bay. Though I try not romanticize the life he leads as he is quite poor, he did invite me to sit on his porch and drink tea. I would like to imagine that if were all so friendly there might be more harmony in this world. Welcome, dear visitor! Phenic Posted October 26, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just got my Leica X1 for a trip to Phuket, Thailand last week and this was taken at Phi Phi Island. Fantastic little cam this is. Post-process work in ACR (suggestions taken from the digital processing forum): Brightness: +30 (instead of +50 default) Manual lens correction: -20 Fix red/cyan fringe + defringe highlight edges Camera profile: Standard (didn't like embedded) Sharpening: Default (25,1.0,25,0) Clarity: +5 Vibrance: +5 My monitor is not calibrated and if this is too processed for the challenge, let me know.
ChiILX1 Posted October 26, 2010 Share #8 Posted October 26, 2010 (edited) I don't get the indexical reference "now" - when did the shooting period for this contest begin? Thanks. Just found the original posting so nevermind on that question. I am doing this retrospectively (I just found out about this contest so now I'm looking back to see what I shot) and fully aware that my post will most likely serve to irk both the real photographers and those who just want to swoop in at the last minute to win the contest I'm just an aspiring amateur so please excuse all my inadequacies (which others have made more than clear in very unproductive ways). Here's, what I believe, is my most "harmonious" shot during this period. It's one of my favorite places to read on campus. The colors of the ivy on the buildings and the leaves in the trees are beautiful. The goldfish always want you to feed them, the birds chirp above your head in the tree, the colorful leaves rustle and blow around you and you really feel like it's all the harmony to the melody of Fall. It's called "Botany Pond." I was unable to post a large version here due to size restrictions. The Flickr version can be seen here: Botany Pond | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Let's have fun with this so please be kind. I welcome feedback. Welcome, dear visitor!
