I am looking through this groups AMAZING photos and I am so jealous, but excited to start playing more with my new and awesome camera. I dont know much about photography but would love any quick advice you guys can give...

I have played with it a bit and dont have PS yet or any of those other fancy programs so I'm using that Capture One (or iPhoto, which probably doesnt do it any justice). BUT...i'm learning...

A few questions I have...

1) how to increase the shutter speed for B/W enough to make the images more crisp? Even in auto mode...the image has to be SO STILL to make it work
2) when do you guys use the flash? if ever?

Do you guys have any fun modes you particularly like to shoot in? (like the blurring the background effect to focus on ONE object, etc.) and how do you do it?

Ok, I know I sound extremely novice here, and I am...but I LOVE this camera and want to be like all of you!!

NP, welcome aboard. First of all I would suggest posting questions on the main forum. You'll get much more attention there...very few folks visit this area.
In order to get the best from the DL4 I shoot RAW. My general approach is to use aperture priority and usually I shoot wide open, which maximizes the shutter speed. Camera shake is always an issue, particularly for such a small camera....so I use the accessory hand grip.
I also encourage you to post images in the photo section....you will get many more comments over there.
