Hi every one

I have a question as a relative new D-Lux 4 owner. What do you all use for software and which one works the best with the D-Lux 4?

I have been using the D-Lux 4 for about 6 months now, previously been using Nikon DSLRs. Still learning what this great little camera can do. The D-Lux 4 seems to produce great j-pegs so I have not been shooting in RAW. I use an older version of Photoshop, CS2.

I don't expect this is the best around, but I have been quite pleased with the results.

It seems most people recommend Photoshop. Are there any less expensive version of Photoshop for beginners without having to dish out for the pro version of PS?

Many people recommend Photoshop Elements. I have never used it but I'm sure it should be able to do everything you need.
Photoshop is incredibly expensive. I was given an older version by a friend.

You are right, PS is expensive and Photoshop Elements is the most likely option to go. Has anyone had any experience with Lightroom?

Yes, I use Lightroom as well as PS. I personally tend to use LR more for cataloging and quick prints, and then use PS for more involved printing tasks. LR doesn't have some of the features of PS such as Layers, etc. I have no experience with Elements so I don't know what is missing in it compared to PS.

I'm using Photoshop Elements for both my Nikon DSLRs and my D-Lux 4. I like Elements very much and am getting more and more into Raw. While the D-Lux 4 produces good jpegs, you realy can get more from the Raw. Was using Nikon NX but now stuck on PSE. I'm still growing into PSE and don't understand how to use all the features (layering eg.) but I think it has a lot to offer without breaking the bank. PS seems to be the standard and and while speeking to a photo paper company rep about optomizing my printing; he only spoke PS and was able to help me achieve the level of printing I was looking for. It's easier to get help with PS because everyone seems to use it.

I think you'll be happy. The D-Lux 4 is an amazing little camera and good software will get the most from it. I only wish the finder wasn't so expensive; even with the Leica name it's dear.

Yes the D-Lux 4 is amazing for it's size. I am quite happy with it. I will buy Element 8 in the New Year. You can view some of my images on the D-Lux 4 Master-File under clinchico. It would be nice to have a viewfinder, however I get along quite well without it.
