Default "The Challenge" - Paris - October (Eurostar heads-up)

Just a note to say that Eurostar have now got tickets available for that weekend.

If one was to book an outward journey on Friday at around 10 am, returning on Sunday at around 2 pm, the total fare for two adults (London - Paris) would be £112 (non-flexible, sitting at the back, bring your own croissants and Pernod etc etc...)

That's pretty good value, I reckon.

If we a) lived near London and b) hadn't already given Sleazyjet our money, I think that we would have gone for this option.

(They have posh tickets available too, of course)

See you there folks!

Andy, thanks for the heads up, as I'm working in London at the moment this is useful - do you know if the same prices apply for journies from Ashford?

I'll be posting a message about the one challenge this weekend with more details. If Bill Palmer reads this can he forward me the rules etc. from last year.

Thanks, I'll look into that also, although Gatwick is very easy for me to get to as well.

Sorry, I'm being lazy, the challenge is on the Saturday this time isn't it?

William, they're special offers to attract the tourists over a weekend. During the week I guess they rely on business people who don't actually pay for anything themselves :-)

Thanks Steve, I have located the Eurostar website and marked it into the "Favorites" for future reference.
(I can see various deals now, and with hotels too, ..much better than buying tickets at the station!)

In order to get the absolute best prices on any train journey over here, you have to specify an actual train time that you will be using. This is something that many are not used to, but it's no different from catching an aeroplane.

If you want an "Open" ticket, the prices are much, much higher.

The hotel that I was going to book, near The Louvre, is fully booked, so I have had to settle for a superior room with panoramic city views, half way up Montmatre.

Bummer.

I've never liked Montmatre - sleezy at the bottom of the hill, touristy at the top.

Perhaps halfway up is the best place to stay :-)

Sounds like me to a tee...

It's about a minute's walk from Abbess station. It can't be any sleazier than the first hotel we stayed in which was just down the hill from Pigalle... Mind you, that was very cheap.

The other one I was looking at was a block north of Palais Royale, but it was full.
