Welcome Leicaphiles.
These are the proposed details of the Leica London user forum meeting for Saturday 14th June, 2008. First off, does anyone know if this date clashes with an important national event like England playing Germany in the quarter final of the Euro 2008 (hahahahahaha!)? Seriously, if someone does recognise the date as one of national importance then perhaps we should know now, Per the previous thread on the subject, I am honoured to be asked to lead a walk leaving from Whitechapel (tube) back through Brick Lane and Spitalfields to our final destination at Liverpool Street. This is my stamping ground and I hope I can introduce you to some of the more picturesque backwaters of Whitechapel. I propose we meet at the Hamilton Hall pub at Liverpool Street. It has a Mezzanine level which if my recollection is correct has a number of tables which can be pulled together for us to sit around. It does food at fair prices and a range of beers. It does not come recommended for its ambience but it is probably the only pub I can think of in the area which can accomodate us. In order to finalise the details I need some confirmation of those likely to attend the walk part and those who are going to go direct to the social event at the pub. 1. The walk will commence at Whitechapel Tube at 12:00. I plan to lead us through the back roads of Whitechapel to Brick Lane (via Hanbury Street) and then through the very picturesque area of Spitalfields enclosed by Princelet Street. I expect this will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours depending on how much people want to photograph. 2. If people want to go directly to the social side I'd recommend someone who doesn't go on the walk volunteers to be in Hamilton Hall from 12:30 onwards and to start snagging tables. I would be grateful if people would give me a show of hands (virtually) as to which part of the event they are going to. Also, if people are travelling far and they think the timings need to be changed then please let me know. BTW, there was some talk about going for a curry in Brick Lane. I was a bit worried that if we made this the meeting point it might put some people off coming along as curry is not to everyone's taste. The curry shops in Brick Lane are open all the day so there is nothing to stop us deciding to go there after we rendezvous at Hamilton Hall, or later on in the afternoon. Brian, you are the master of these events, so if I have forgotten anything, can you add to this thread? If people want my mobile, in order to rendezvous with the walk after it has started then please PM me and I'll send it to you. Looking forward to seeing you on the day Louis (and Brian, without whose activity none of these events would get going!).

Well done Louis! Covered everything - I think!
I am on for it and all things being equal should be meeting you at Whitechapel tube at noon. I am away the week before returning later on the Friday, but that should not prevent attendance. London Leica users thread relates to this!

I'm in for sure. And bringing my friend who is a keen photographer and from the area. He doesn't usually use a Leica, but I'm lending him on of my film Ms so he can join in for the day.

Sounds great. Count me in, for now. If I have to drop out I'll be sure to let you know in advance.
Regards, Bill

One thing that has not been mentioned is the state of public transport at the weekend. Potential attendees are advised to check here for the latest tube and bus info. Although it may well be over by the 14th, the District & Hammersmith lines are not running east past Whitechapel due to the making safe of a WWII 2000lb bomb.
The above link will also let you know what buses pass Whitechapel Tube Stn. See you all on the 14th - and WE COULD DO WITH A FEW MORE ATTENDEES!!

Unfortunately I'll be in the Hessenpark so cannot attend - but we'll probably be able to hear the bang in Frankfurt.... ![]()

I shall attend both and I hope to be sporting a black baseball cap emblazoned with "Leitz". (And other appropriate apparel before you enquire, Bill!
) See you at Whitechapel at 12.00.Pete.

I must have missed that thread , but luckily found it in time, and would of course love to come along too. The 14th is perfect, and I am looking forward to meeting you all for the walk and pup .

Hi,
I'd like to join for the walk and pub - put me down as a definately maybe, it just depends how this week goes as I've been away for a week on holiday and the amount of stuff I have to get through is a bit daunting right now! I mentioned it before, not trying to put anyone off but please be careful with your cameras/bags when you're in the pub - several colleagues have lost bags whilst drinking in pubs near L'pool St Station, the area seems to be rife with very clever and very discrete bag snatchers, who no doubt slip very quickly off into the station and away. Hopefully see you all on Saturday. |

Won´t you better meet in Heathrow or Stansted?
Than it´s easier to come over to Frankfurt and join the Hessenpark-meeting only a few kilometers away. It´s worth to, I promise! FriedhelmWould be nice to meet you... |

Just a final check on tomorrow:
1. Urban Ramblers - meet at the entrance to Whitechapel Tube at 12:00AM. 2. Socialites - meet at the Hamilton Hall (upstairs?) at Liverpool Street from 12:30 onwards. Urban Ramblers, we'll start at Whitechapel Market, then walk through the backroads of Hanbury Street to the intersection with Brick Lane, then we'll circulate around Fournier and Princelet Street before striking off across Spitalfields to Liverpool Street. If you are late then you can always try to intersect us at Brick Lane. I am only planning on an hours perambulation as I have a foot injury which will slow me down (I stubbed my little toe badly and looks like I have either bruised or broken it). But after the pub you'll easily find your way back to Spitalfields and Brick Lane if you want to do more photography. If you want my mobile number PM me and I'll send it to you. I look forward to meeting as many of you as are willing tomorrow either on the ramble or at the pub. Louis
