Default London - 31. 7. 06 - Informal Dinner

http://www.leica-camera.com/discus_e.../2/207829.html

So far there are three of us. As the Grenadier is small, I believe the maximum is twelve. I'd like to book the table(s) in about a week. First come, first served!

So, who's confirmed?

You
Ron
A. N Other.

I would book a table sooner rather than later. 31/7 isn't very far off and if you want a table of 12, that's a big setting to have at once for a small place.

Ron is unlikely as his girlfriend is flying into Gatwick that evening and he needs to pick up a car for a week in Cornwall.

So far, Simon Larbalestier, James Earley and myself.

As it's three weeks off, I'm counting on a Monday during the July holidays being a non-issue, touch wood...

Andy, sorry. We are discussing to cancel the hotel in london and to book one near/at Gatwick Airport, because of logistical reasons. It all depends on the car we could hire and the timetable.

Looking forward to it William. I popped in for a pint the other day as I was in the area, first time in ages.

Brother James,

Trust the standard hasn't slipped. They've always kept their ales very well. Refused to serve me one of my faves once because it had only arrived that morning and hadn't setteled.

I had a very nice pint of London Pride. It was a very hot day & everyone was standing outside. The beer was cellar cool though.

What, no Bombardier?! Were they feeding the Great Dane which lives in the mews? Hope it isn't quite that warm when I'm over. Looks temperate at the moment.

William, James and Simon,

If you still have space, it would be nice to meet you on the 31st. William, I have "private messaged" you with my phone number and email address if it helps you with bookings etc.

best regards

Adrian

Hello Adrian,

Glad to have you aboard. As I had expected, it appears that many locals are on holiday that week. Nevertheless, I can guarantee that at least ONE "photographer" will be present.

Get busy with your avatar anyway, but the pub is tiny and you will have no problem finding us. I'll book soon, but should others have an interest in joining us, I suspect a few more will not be a problem, given a little notice. I leave for the U.K. on the 23rd and will be out-of-touch thereafter.

Some of us don't have holiday until September, I'm afraid, but then, we may not count as local!

Andy,

And I didn't even HAVE a holiday last year! Saw YOU the last time I had a proper holiday...

No, I'd certainly not expect you to drive from Chester for a little gathering any more than I'd drive from NJ to DC for dinner..., i.e. unless I were still 30 and the young Jean Shrimpton were there waiting for me!

Well, I did have a week on a Scottish island, so I suppose that counts.

Funnily enough, in the real world, Jean Shrimpton (or even Audey Hepburn) are never waiting for you...

Try the Brakspears, if they have it.

Andy,

Suspect you are right!

As for Brekspears, they don't. Had some Special with Bill Palmer in 2004 though. If The George in Dorchester doesn't have any, I'll probably miss it this time. Pretty local to Oxfordshire, no?

BTw, that's Audrey Hepburn's little known brother Audey, who used to be a cowboy. Or something

Anyway, BrAkspears is an Oxfordshire beer, but readily available in decent pubs in London, some of which they own.

The real Dorchester is in Dorset, or as they say in those parts, "Darzet". Only a few miles further west is Bridport where co-incidentally exists a very old brewery by the name of Palmers producing some very fine real ales. There are a few establishments outside of Dorset that offer Palmers ales, but not many I'm afraid. Anyway chaps I drink cider.......the fermented kind as produced in Normandy (weak stuff), south west England (very strong stuff), East Anglia and Kent, oh, also Ireland! Does the Grenadier offer a good cider.......I find very few pubs in London sell a good draught cider!

Cheers, Dave (hic)

David,

You drink cider from Dorset and you still have any brain cells left?! Remarkable... I'm certainly not man enough.

The partner of a colleague of mine in the office from Devon who makes skid plates and the like for Land Rovers is SERIOUSLY dangerous when he's been drinking this stuff. Drinks nothing else!!!

Cider is possible but I'm unsure. My head thanks me for not asking. They do have a good Port there though as I remember well because my son nearly cleaned me out on one visit.

I think they only had Strongbow when I was there last week (the Grenadier that is).

William, what time will you be there on the 31st?

Cheers

Cider, eh? It's been a while... fields, tents and musicians were involved!

best

James,

19:00 on the 31st as I have an early flight in the AM on the 1st. Forgot to book this AM before leaving for work, so I'll try to remember to do this tomorrow.

Ade,

Thanks for the picture. Now just look for the Old Geezer when you get there as there are only four of us. Room for more is probably not a problem, but I expect many are away. Sent Seb a private mail and had no reply. As Seb owns Leicas AND a Defender 90 CSW, there's no way he'd miss a get-together, were he around!
