Default Meeting Eisenach - Gotha

Please have a look in the German section for the announcement of this meeting. Everybody is invited to join.

BTW, in Gotha you will find part of the roots of the British Royal Family. Until they changed their name into Windsor during WW I their family name since Prince Albert was Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha...

If You need some translation just ask.

Regards
Friedhelm

That might be useful, as there seems to be a very full agenda for a whole weekend!

Thanks for sharing over here, though.

OK, I´ll try it in an abbreviated form:

Friday:
We will meet at the "Baumkronenpfad" in the National Park "Hainich". It is the biggest beech tree wood in Germany. Former training aera of the soviet troops in the GDR it now transforms into an original wood without forest works. The Baumkronenpfad is the only one in continental Europe and is a trail through the beechs in about 30 meters above ground.

Transfer to the best hotel in the old Residence Town of Gotha. In the castle / palace the only theatre of the whole world in which the old wooden stage mechanics of the barock age survived. Chance to attend an barock Opera from Ialian Composer Cimarosa.

Saturday:
Steamtrain to Eisenach. Possibility to attend the Luther-Fest with ists broad medival market, music and screen play about Luther. Alternatives: Bachhaus, birthplace of JS Bach. Wartburg, World Heritage and place, where Luther translated the New Testament from Greek to German. Automobilmuseum - from Wartburg Motorcar (first in 1898) to GM Opel. Drachenschlucht - romantic gorge at foot of the Wartburg and much more.
Back to Gotha by train ICE in 13 minutes.

Sunday:
Gotha. Excursion into the old wooden mechanics in the barock Ekhof-theatre or into the Kasematten of Schloss Friedenstein, the old fortified tunnels underneath the castle or a big special exhibition "Bionics", where you can find original tyrannosaurus rex feet as well as the latest walking robotic machines and much more things, where nature told us how to build machines, structures etc.
Overland-Tram to one of the niceiest horse racing courses in Germany. "My Fair Lady" racing day, where woman with hats don´t have to pay the entrance fee. We are accredited as press photogs. You can decide photographing ladies or horses is more interesting for you...

Details, esp. URLs, contact data and time schedule please see in the German section.

Would be really nice to see at least one of the international Leica freaks!!!

Golly!

Beats walking up a hill and bringing your own sandwiches.

Andy,

I think it´s not comparable. Had my honeymoon trip to the Lake District and still remember it very well. I really would like to step up the hill with you, but---

I will contact you when I´m in that region the next time!

How about some international guests at Eisenach and Gotha? The UK isn´t too far, nor the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Austria and Czechia. So come up!

This is a kind of "last call", as the latest date to inscribe will be the 1th of August. Anybody can join the party even spontaneus, but will not have the advantages of an accredited photographer at the Luther-Festival and on the racecourse i.e.

I would appreciate to welcome You in Thuringia

Friedhelm

Please use my e-mail adress which you can find in the first post in the German category Forumstreffen, thanks.
