Hsin

Don't they allow you free passage throughout the EU once you are resident in one member state?

If not, that's a bit unfair ...

Yes it's unfair but as I"m sure Hsin will know (probably more than I) it's to do with the special visa agreement between some EU member and non-member states - known as the Schengen Agreement - which allows someone to move freely between those states once they have a visa for any one of them.

The 15 Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. All these countries except Norway and Iceland are European Union members.

I would rather walk than fly Ryanair!

BTW - when does voting close on the 2008 venue choice? Same as end of voting on the Challenge?

What happens if there's a dead heat between two or more destinations, a second play off poll? <grin>

I am going to Vienna in November, so unless it is tremendously exciting, I won't be going next year too. For me the others are all game.

I think Krakaow, but it'll probably be immaterial as business will interrupt and prevent me participating like this year.

Of the others, I'd have to say Barcelona - but that's mainly because of the food and not the photo opportunities.

Steve, in the page 2 there are a man drinking. "No idea what he is drinking, but it is an interesting bottle"

the name of this "bottle" is "PORRÓN".

Thanks for this great report of atmosphere on the streets in Barcelona.

Bernardo, thanks. I didn't know the name, but they were standard souvenirs from Spain when the package holiday market first took off in the UK.

Steve,

The Porrón is a container common and widely used throughout Spain. Normally it is used for drinking wine.

Regards.

Brian is absolutely right.

In fact it is quite complicated. For example, Ireland is an EU country, an Euro currency country, but not a Shengen visa country. As a foriegner, even having my French residence card, I still need to apply for a visa to go to Ireland.

A trip to a non Shengen country can sometimes be extremely expensive for me. Lets take UK for example. Only 2 hours from Paris, I have to pay 350 Euro for the "entry ticket". Almost 3x the price of a round trip EuroStar ticket! With this price, I can almost go to Canada! (50 a visa and some 500 for airplan ticket)
